35

I’ve shot on 35mm film since 2018, I think. The winter time, looking at my first roll. It was an old camera, Yashica FX-D, the D stands for ‘dusty’ in mine…

I’ve owned and used many cameras, and i’ll try to note under each gallery which camera it was taken with. I don’t think i’ve ever bought a camera new, mind you I was gifted a lovely DSLR Canon for my 18th birthday, and promptly took it to photograph Amsterdam with my college buddies. That was both my introduction to street photography in a new place, and first steps in the greatest Euro city for herbalists.

I don’t scan myself, and for a long time I’ve sourced to and loved Photo Hippo Lab in Burnley, a fantastic variety of services, all my film, and even my Grandparent’s 1966 wedding VHS has been scanned by them at exceptional quality.

I take great joy in the moment a photograph is taken, because of the light being captured onto the thin surface behind the lens. I know that the scene has truly been seen, and it’s a moment forevermore.

I enjoy the patient wait to see results, especially as I often go months before scanning my images. It’s nice to open a zip file and be greeted with warm photographs of sunny days, bringing back memories all too fresh.
